New Electronic Record to Support Ophthalmology Service

System: Open Eyes

Open Eyes 2

Problem Statement

The Pennine Acute Organisation is currently entirely reliant on paper processes for the delivery of Ophthalmology Services.

The problem with the paper based system include the cost of printing the current paperwork, the inability to share data easily and Delays in the next step of a patient journey.

What was the solution?

"Open Eyes"

The Trust is in the process of rationalising the use of applications within the Ophthalmology service and moving towards a full ophthalmic EPR.

"Open Eyes" will be deployed and will support all outpatient and inpatient services within ophthalmology. Initially support will be provided for specific clinical pathways including :

  • Cataracts

  • Glaucoma

  • Medical Retina

Business as Usual will then deliver all other patient pathways including the Eye Casualty Clinics.

The go-live is scheduled for July 2020.

What are the Benefits.

Reduce Cost

  • Improved Management Information

  • Lower admin overhead allowing focus on acquiring and servicing new business

Better Management of Interpreter Service

  • System delivers holistic ‘Helicopter View’ of Ophthalmology Provision via "single source of the truth".
